Jesus calls us to Love Him dearly and follow Him closely. On the occasion of Vocation Sunday, this year, The Patriarchal Seminary of Rachol presents a short video on the call for Priesthood and life in the Seminary.
Football Match: Rachol Seminary Vs Navelim Parish Youth
The seminarians of the Patriarchal Seminary of Rachol played a friendly football match against Navelim Parish Youth at Navelim parish grounds on Sunday, 17th September 2017, a day celebrated as Vocation Sunday in the Archdiocese of Goa and Daman. In hard fought encounter Navelim Parish Youth emerged victoriouswith a 3-2 win.
The match began on an attacking mode. The seminarians almost took a lead in the very first minute. However, Sem. Clifford Fernandes shot above the post from inside the box. The Navelim youth soon regrouped themselves and took control of the first half proceedings. The Rachol Seminary goalkeeper Jollyson Fernandes, with some brilliant saves, thwarted Navelkars’ efforts. The crowd were treated with some skilful play of football from both the teams.
After changing over, both teams were on a hunt for a goal and the Navelimparish youth were the first to break the jinx when Preslie Gomes scored from outside the box in the 50thminute. The seminarians tried very hard to equalise. But theNavelim keeper Dhillon guarded strongly his citadel. The ‘Navelkars’ scored two quick goals through Preslie who completed his hattrick. Although down by 3 goals the seminarians did not lose the steam and came up with some skilful display scoring their first goal through Snyter Pereirain the 65th minute. They reduced the margin again through a brilliant header from Sem. Melito D’Costa in the 74th minute. The seminary team pressed hard for the equaliser till the end, but was unsuccessful.
The following prizes were distributed: first scorer of the match Preslie Gomes (Navelim),best goalkeeper Dhillon (Navelim). Noteworthy among those present for the match were former international players Coven and Climax Lawrence, Fr. George Aguiar (Parish PriestNavelim), Fr. Constance Carvalho, Fr. Americo Rodrigues, Fr. Myron Barretto, Fr. Aleixo Menezes (The rector of the Patriarchal Seminary of Rachol), Fr. Agnelo Pinheiro (sports animator), Fr. George Dias (coach) and other priests from the Rachol Seminary.
Fr. Aleixo Menezes, while addressing the crowd, thanked the priests from the Navelim Church for organizing well the match, appreciated the players for exhibiting wonderful football and called on the youth to join the seminary if they feel called by God to be a priest. Fr. Americo Rodrigues proposed the vote of thanks.
