Traditional Football Match at Rachol Seminary
The traditional football match between the theology seminarians vs philosophy seminarians was played at 4.50 p.m. on 31st July 2017 at the Rachol Seminary sports arena, on the occasion of feast of St. Ignatius of Loyola. The match, as expected was interesting to watch and the seminarians from both the teams displayed their inherent football skills. In the first half, the theology seminarians missed a goal by a whisker when seminarian Sanford Rodrigues headed accurately shot freekick by Edwin D’sa. Sems. Jude Coelho and Snyter Pereira too had a good look at the goal. From the philosophy section, sems. Rayan D’Souza and Clifford Fernandes tried their luck at the goal. The second half saw both the teams have equal chances. In the final moments of the match sem. Snyter tried his luck at the goal but his flick flew over the goal post. Unfortunately, the closely fought match did not result in any goal. The goal-less match was decided by tie breaker, which the Theology seminarians won 4-2. The final penalty shot in the goal by the Captain sem. Jollyson Fernandes drew jubilant celebrations among the supporters of the theology seminarians. For the theology seminarians the goal scorers were Sems. Sanford, Leslie Noronha, Jovial Fernandes and Jollyson. Sheldon Pereira saved one penalty of sem. Clarence Carneiro. For the Philosophy seminarians Dezil Fernandes, Calburn Fernandes were on target while sem. Rayan D’Souza was off target and sem. Sanford Rodrigues saved a penalty of sem. Benny Fernandes. The match was officiated by Mr. Wilfred from Racholand was assisted by sems. Fransisco Peres and Venancio Fernandes. The match was witnessed by the Rector Fr. Aleixo Menezes and other staff members. Sem. Snyter Pereira was the outstanding player of the match.
