Mission Academy Report
Sr. Jane Mary sfn as the Chief Guest of the Function testified that “the prison is not the place of punishment, but the correction of the human sick behaviour” at the Mission Academy Programme held at the Patriarchal Seminary of Rachol on the 16th of January, 2014 at 4.00 pm.
The Programme was set in motion by the Rector of the Seminary, Rev. Dr. Aleixo Menezes with his enchanting words of welcome and a soul igniting video presentation Pope Francis: A joyfilled Inspiration By Sem. Rony Fernandes. The exhibition of the paintings by the seminarians was inaugurated by Sr. Jane Mary. The display of the exhibition was ably coordinated by Sem. Dyrel Dias.
The theme of the Mission Academy was “The Joy of the Gospel”. The Scientific sessions comprised of three papers and one documentary. The presentations were: The Joy of the Gospel in Words by Sem. Myron Jeson Barretto challenging us to be effective in our ministry of proclamation, The Joy of the Gospel in ‘Spaces’ By Deacon Mario Carvalho appreciates the educational, health care and social work of the Church but cautions us to be more evangelical in our personal approach, The Joy of the Gospel in Art by Sem. Roman Rodrigues vivifies the presence of the Paintings of Angelo de Fonseca on the Seminary walls and the documentary entitled Ray of Hope on the theme The Joy of the Gospel in Action and Presence. The Scientific session was moderated by Rev. Dr. Maxim Pinto, Visiting Professor of Philosophy of Religion.
The documentary Ray of Hope was on the mission of Sr. Jane and her Prison Ministry which was followed by the brainstorming question-answer session. The students of Third Year of Theology presented their Mission experience report. The Guest of Honour was Ms. Irene Sequiera, the Superintendent of Central Jail, Aguada-Goa. She also declared the results of the painting competition. Sem. Dyrel Dias bagged the first place, Sem. Magnus Gama secured the second place and Sem. Francisco Barretto was awarded the third place. The compere was Sem. Joism De Souza and the coordinator of the Mission Academy Programme was Sem. Rony Fernandes, who shouldered his responsibility with a smile. The programme was attended by Catechists from neighbouring Parishes, some Nuns and volunteers from the prison ministry.
