The new Academic Year 2019-2020 of the Patriarchal Seminary of Rachol was solemnly inaugurated on 3rd July 2019 with the solemn Eucharistic celebration celebrated by Most Rev. Archbishishop-Patriarch Filipe Neri Ferrao. The theme chosen for the new academic year is Being Formed and sent to be ministers of mercy and charity (Doyallaieche ani pritiseveche munniari zaunk, akarun pattoita). It was a threefold celebration i.e. the feast of St. Thomas, the solemn inaugural of the Academic Year and the admission of the 4th Year Theology seminarians into the clerical order. 15 new seminarians, who wore the cassock for the first time, were welcomed into the community. After the Eucharistic Celebration, the Seminary community along with the Archbishop gathered in the seminary auditorium for the traditional Lectio Brevis this year being delivered by Rev. Dr.Macson Fernandes. The program began with the Seminary Orchestra playing the Kinder Symphony by Haydn followed by the said Lectio Brevis. The Archbishop in his address then called the seminarians to be Joyful, faithful and merciful, basing himself on the new diocesan theme for the year. The program concluded with the choir singing a choral piece “Go to the ends of the Earth” followed by the Seminary Anthem. Later that evening the staff and seminarians of the seminary joined a few locals in the traditional planting of the fields.
